Ice skating has been around thousands of years. According to research, ice skating shoes were created in 3000 B.C. Back then, it was made of boots with shanks or oxen rib bones as blades.
Before the emergence of figure skating, Fen skating was more popular. When the water froze, workers enjoy a good fen skating race. They use Fen runners, a piece of wood with a blade and screws and spikes to keep it in place. Racers screw the fen runners on their boots by the heel and the spikes near the midfoot and toe.
By the 13th and 14th century, the ice skates were invented. The design of the skates helped people to save their boots in the process because you don’t need to screw the blades on your boots.
Figure skating began in the latter part of the 19th century. It’s a sport combining ice skating and dancing. It was the first winter sport added to the Olympics.
Figure skates are made of leather, nylon, plastic, and steel. The leather is used as a lining of the shoe, and the steel for the blades. Ankle paddings made from memory foams are added for support. For athletic wear, carbon fiber is used for better wear-and-tear of the skates. Each figure skates are designed on an angle of the blade.
