Pagodas are tiered structures culturally significant in Asia. Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, and other Asian countries built these amazing structures for religious purposes. Mostly, these pagoda temples are Buddhist and Taoist places of worship.
One of the more popular pagodas in Japan is the Five-storied Pagoda of former Kan’ei-ji Temple. It’s simply known as Kan'ei-ji and is located in Ueno Park in Tokyo, Japan.
The temple was built in 1631 and was erected to protect the Edo castle. During the Boshin War from 1868 to 1869, the temple was destroyed, but the pagoda survived.
The five-storied pagoda stands at 120 feet (36.6 meters) from the ground to the uppermost spherical spire. The roofs of the 1st four floors are covered in Japanese traditional ceramic tiles, while the roof of the fifth and uppermost floor is covered in copper sheets.
