This shirt is so soft; it’s great to wear when you’re out for a little brisk walk.
Two of the biggest tech giants in the world have become great friends. Steve Jobs and Bob Iger’s friendship started when Iger reached out to Jobs after becoming CEO of Disney. Iger called Jobs the moment his promotion to CEO was announced.
Pixar, Jobs’ production company, was having a fall out with Disney. Jobs’ relationship with the past Disney CEO, Michael Eisner, was rocky.
Iger reached out to Jobs to start cultivating a new relationship between the two companies. When he did, he didn’t talk about Pixar and Disney. Instead, Iger talked about his love for music and the Apple iPod.
He also talked about how he envisions the future of media. Iger talked about how he would like to have television shows accessible from people’s computers. After that meaningful talk, Jobs showed him a prototype of the Apple iPod Video and confides in him of his vision for the future, as well.
What would later bloom is a great relationship between the two great minds of our generation. Both Jobs and Iger trusted each other. In January 2006, Jobs invited Iger to take a walk with him before announcing Disney’s acquisition of Pixar.
On their walk, Jobs told Igers about his cancer and failing health. He trusted and respected Iger so much that he gave him a chance to back out of the acquisition if he needed to. Igers did not take Jobs’ gracious offer and continued to make the $7.4 billion deal.
The acquisition yielded high returns for Disney and Pixar. Together they have won 20 Academy Awards, 8 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards. Igers decision to trust Jobs, despite the heartbreaking news of his cancer, made for a historical moment in their lives and ours.
